and many more. Do you remember those. I learned a lot about her art and would like to collect these now that I know how wonderful and detailed her pictures are. She was the artist as well as the writer of these children's books. She also was artistic in many other ways, dance, scupture and textiles. She married her art teacher and they raised their family in Maine. Their whole life was about art and they had 2 sons (I think). She wrote books that her little boys would like and they were her critics. If it passed them then she knew it would be liked by other children.
.
In the dvd they talked about the messages in her books. It is pretty obvious in "The Little House", which starts out in a lovely countryside spot which ends up suppounded by a city. They lived in their own little house by the sea and her boys had a wonderful childhood. Her story reminds me a bit of Tasha Tudor. She valued the simplicity of nature and did a lot of research about the fauna that she illustrated her books with.
.
I could go on and on, there is a lot of information about her art and books in this dvd. I highly recommend it, esp. if you are into children's literature or art.
