I love these Paris books. This is the one I just finished reading. It came at a good time to encourage me with some of the things I'm trying to do and want to do.
It's written by Jennifer L. Scott. She went to Paris as an exchange student and lived with a French family. They had a very formal life style and for Jennifer, a Southern California girl, it was quite a departure.
She started a blog to share what she had learned from Madame Chic her host. Her readers had so many questions she decided to write a book. She is on UTube also.
I read several books about people living in Paris, but this is the first one that lived with a French family, so I enjoy learning about how they really lived.
Her first shock was that they don't eat in between meals, no snacking. So I'm trying to use this as motivation to do the same. Jennifer ate constantly and learned a lot from breaking this habit. Like enjoying your meals more and feeling real hunger for the first time. It makes you think. How often do most of us ever feel hunger without immediately feeding it. They also ate their meals at regular times, the same time every day. I think this is good because it helps your body to eat at a regular time.
We all know how the French are known to be walkers. She talks about going out shopping with Madame Chic and be exhausted by the time they got home and she did this every day. Climbing several sets of stairs was normal. Many places didn't have elevators. They seem to live a simpler life in some ways. I'm trying to walk everyday and my goal is to be able to walk to the grocery store which is a good hike.
I may share some of the others ideas from her book as I try to do them like the 10 piece wardrobe. I could keep going talking about this book but I don't want to spoil it for anyone that wants to read it. Her blog gives a lot of the same informations, but doesn't replace the book. I got mine at the library, but this is one I'm thinking of buying.
