Winter is a hard time to eat seasonally, local and plentiful. Organic is not cheap, ones garden is not putting out a lot but if you are like me, you are looking for ways to add more veggies to your diet. Sprouting is always a good idea but especially in the winter. It is an easy, inexpensive and you can always have greens on-hand.
There are lots of different seeds or nuts you can use. Just make sure you use organic seeds from a company you trust. This is a great post covering the basics. There is even an app for your i-phone/i-pad. Here is a list of what you can use and how long to soak it. I know this list is not complet, there is amaranth and onion missing and I am sure more. Warning, braggy mom post!!! I am always amazed at my daughters creative, out-of-the-box thinking. This Christmas was no different. Not only are their gifts so creative but always reflect the person it is made for. These are just the ones I got to photograph. There was also a ruffled edge scarf, crochet flower bracelets, cup holder and a zombie lima bean ornament (because David HATES lima beans). Chloe crocheted me a beautiful cover for a canning jar. In white just like I wanted!
Chloe also made her sister a felt doll, Ren from Uta No Prince-Sama anime.
Auberne` crochet this amazing cherry pin. It is a soft periwinkle, very delicate, I just love it.
The girls also made for their father this key chain. Each penny is from the year they were born.
My fav gift, this the bow tie Chloe made for her sis. The packaging was half the fun. Auberne` crocheted Chloe a Harry Potter scarf. Auberne` sold so many scarves this Christmas, it was all she was doing the month of December!!
This is not a gift my girls made me but a little gift I splurged on myself. I love Bertha Louise Designs work and when I saw this necklace and earrings I had to have them. I find I am wearing them almost every day. Thank you Angela !!
Rarely do I find movies I love but I have found a few lately, so it is a rare treat to be able to share them with you!!

First is my favorite film Haute Cuisine . This is everything I love France, food, a true story and cooking. It is based on the true story of Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch and how she was appointed as the private chef for the 21st French President Francois Mitterrand. Full of interesting details of French political life, running a kitchen as a woman in a man's world and love of food. A must see!
Savannah, is an interesting true story of Ward Allen, a romantic and bombastic character who rejects his plantation heritage for the freedom of life on a river. It did not get good reviews and I am not sure how true to facts are but I did not care. The story line held me, Jim Caviezel did an amazing job. I wanted to know more about Ward Allen and his life on the river. I always enjoy a beautiful period piece!
Populaire This is a sweet love story with a real 50's vibe.I will warn there is one brief sex scene.

Lastly, is The Scapegoat, a film based on the Daphne du Maurier book of the same title. I loved this British drama. Even though the story starts off sad and tragic, love wins in the end. Kindness conquers. I love it when that happens!!.

Happy New Year, I hope all is going well. I had a lovely month off but now December is over and life speeds on. I know this is a little late but better late than never. I will confess because I got so sick, I did a simplified version of this menu. I bought sabayon ice cream from our local ice cream store, instead of making the lemon mousse. Skipped the soup (but will write a recipe for all of you soon), wild rice instead of gratin. Other than that it was delish. I tried to create a menu that reflected our Russian/Eastern European Christmas theme. I am loving roasted grapes but am still tweaking the recipe. You want to roasted them long enough for the sugars to caramelize but not burn.
Now that we are into a new year and there are so many stomach bugs going around I am focusing on cooking food for a healthy gut. They say 80% of your immune system is in your digestive track. So we are eating lots of probiotics like, fermented veggies, homemade yogurt, kifer and bone broth (I keep bags of saved chicken and beef bones in the freezer to use as needed). No sugar and lots of fresh veggie dinners. Have you made bone broth before? I do it in the crock pot for 24 hours and freeze it is mason jars for future use. Very easy to do!!
